Help is One Call Away

child on phone deleted 4b72a9c2 8cae 41d0048d705 218x300 Help is One Call AwayThis article is especially hard for me to write because it is close to my heart. A few days ago, a friend of mine lost a very special member of his family, a child less than two years old. There were drugs found at the scene according to officials. The details are not all completely known and this article is not about that particular situation but about getting help before it is too late.

Texas offers rehab programs. If you are on drugs, you most likely can not get off of them on your own. Detoxing can even be dangerous if not done under medical supervision. I’m not sure just how to write this other than to be completely open and honest. Drugs can take over control and someone you care about can pay the ultimate price. You are worth more than that and so are the ones in your life who are affected by your decision to take drugs.

If life seems overwhelming, if day to day situations are too stressful, please know that you can get help at a Texas rehab center. Please know that if you are in another state, you can get help, too. The rehab center is not there to judge you, it is comprised of people who want to see you succeed in beating your addiction. Along with detoxing, you will have counseling, group therapy and classes to learn why you became addicted and how to avoid a relapse.

If you know of someone who is addicted, call a Texas rehab center and request help. Most likely, the counselor you are put together with will recommend an intervention. Have a counselor available at this very important meeting.

Whether you are setting up an intervention for a loved one or it is you personally who has the addiction, please get help. You will not only be saving a very special person, yourself (even if you do not see yourself that way, you ARE), and you quite possibly could be saving the lives of others at the same time. Children holler and act up. People on drugs have a higher stress level and can not handle that. Get help for that person and you will also be helping any children that person has or is around.

Help is one phone call away. Please do this for yourself and the children in your life. Do it in memory of a special little boy you never even knew. It will be one of the greatest steps you ever take and one that you will absolutely never regret.

The Reality of Addicted

There are several reality shows out there but the truth is that some of them are manipulated for dramatic effect. A show that deals with addiction, however, does not need that because everyone who has been controlled by an addiction or had a loved one on drugs knows that Drama is Addiction’s middle name. Just as a person can go online and see stories shared by those who have experienced what they themselves are going through, people are going to be able to identify with the new TLC show Addiction, which premieres March 17.

Maybe you will watch it with friends and laugh along with them as they make fun of yet another round of realiaddicted show 300x200 The Reality of Addictedty stars. Maybe you will watch it alone. Either way, maybe inside you will be realizing that yes, that does seem familiar because it happened to you or your best friend or your brother or your niece or you strongly suspect that your spouse or teenager is doing drugs because the person on Addicted is acting just like your loved one is.

Television shows yearn for ratings and they admit that. However, there are those that seek to help the public at the same time. Shows like Addicted fall into this arena. The truth is, drugs are out there as you know or you would not be on this site. The truth is, there is help out there, too. So if you watch the show and you need help for yourself or a loved one, come to this site or even any other site, because those who help addicts get clean want one thing: success for those who are addicted.

Addicted promises to be a show along the lines of Intervention. Any show that can educate teenagers and young people, any show that can say “yes, drugs are real and they are not sexy”, any show that lets you know that you are not alone, these shows are worth watching to this writer.

Addicted premieres Wednesday evening, March 17 at 10 eastern, 9 central time. Did you notice the date? March 17, St. Patrick’s Day, the luck of the Irish. Perhaps Addicted will be lucky for some viewer, maybe even you. If you stumbled upon this site because you it is now late Wednesday night and the premiere hit you where you live, then know it was meant to be. Help is out there. Help is available. Help is HERE. You are not here by chance, you are here because you deserve to be helped.

Some reality shows are not as real as they appear. Addiction is real and if watching Addicted helped you to get help, then isn’t that as real as life gets? You deserve help. For real. Thanks to treatment programs around the world, thanks to websites such as this one and thanks to shows that deal with the reality of addiction, you can get that help today.

The Biggest and Baddest Gang Member? Drugs

gang signs 225x300 The Biggest and Baddest Gang Member? DrugsGangs have long been a part of the wild side, the bad side in many states. Made up most of the time through cultural and ethnic similarities, there are gangs of every race and heritage: white, black, Hispanic, Asian. Remember the Italian Mafia? The cultural background no matter what it is…is not the problem. The race of the individuals in the gangs? Not the problem. The common factor that IS the problem? Drugs.

Texas and several other states have gang injunctions. However, drugs have long been a problem here and all over the U.S. as well as other countries and drugs do not care about what is legal or following the rules. The common denominator in practically all gang activity is the buying, selling and/or using of illicit drugs.

Texas and other states are trying to clean up the streets. They are not going after young men (and women) just to get attention or for the money. Texas is one of many states that will try everything it can to get kids to break free of drugs and straighten up their lives. It is also one of the hardest states on drug use that does not stop.

We hear about drive by shootings. We hear about fights between rival gangs. We hear about initiations and rape. What do all these crimes have in common 95% of the time? Drugs. At the heart of nearly every shooting, every fight, every traffic stop involving gang members, the trail leads back to something related to illicit drugs: a bad drug deal, a fix gone wrong, robbery, nearly all are found through legal investigations to have ties to drugs.

Mr. Cool down the street is not that cool, he is just convinced he is because of the drugs that have taken over his body and his brain. Getting all hot and bothered over a snub or sign of “disrespect” only shows that Mr. Cool himself is the one disrespecting, well, himself. How, you may ask? Because he is so controlled by drugs that while he thinks he is the gang leader or the drug lord, he is in fact, the yes-man to the real leader: the drug addiction itself.

In the end, though, we should remember that gang members are people, too, and states like Texas, while firm with the discipline, recognizes this and court-ordered drug rehab and therapy is usually delegated when drugs are found to be a factor in what led the young man down that rocky road. You know what would really be cool about Mr. Cool then? After he goes into drug rehab, he turns around and helps other kids and fights the growing problem of gangs. That would be the cool thing to do.  The truth is, gangs do not rule the streets; drugs rule the gangs.

Meeting Two Success Stories from Teen Challenge of Texas

teen texas 300x200 Meeting Two Success Stories from Teen Challenge of TexasMy fiance and I were shopping at Walmart on Saturday after going to a friend’s speaking engagement regarding the release of her book. I went outside for a few minutes to wait for him and saw two young men with a stand. One asked the question many people ask who set up charity stands for wonderful causes: “would you care to make a donation, ma’am?”

Being me, I went over and checked out the cause. It was Teen Challenge of Texas. I found both young men to be polite and personable. I gave what little cash/change (approximately $3.00) that I had on hand and placed it in their bucket. However, the wonderful crafts and books got my attention. As I looked at the fine artwork, I struck up a conversation with one of the young men.

He told me that Teen Challenge of Texas is a ministry that helps young people to get back on track after falling victim to drugs, alcohol and other situations that make them go by the wayside. No one is perfect, everyone makes mistakes, but sometimes we can not correct them on our own. So Teen Challenge of Texas and its related organizations throughout the country take in the young people and help them to find themselves again. They help them get clean, they help them to recover from addiction and they teach them that they are worthy of saving.

I think this is a wonderful organization and not just because of the “spiel” that may have been spoken but because I saw the integrity of the two young men right before my eyes. I reached for a cookbook and offered over my debit card. The cookbook was only $5.00 and the young man said it was okay because he had seen me make a donation. However, I personally knew I had not made the donation equal to the book. He explained about how it does cost to use the credit machine, something I knew to be true. So I waited on my fiance to exit the store and he gave me the money to pay for the book.

As I waited for my fiance, I talked more to the young man who shared his own experience of getting a second chance in life with Teen Challenge of Texas. We spoke of the recent disaster in Haiti and he said he had dreamed of taking his honeymoon there. Tears came to his eyes as he said he had been praying for the earthquake victims and survivors. He yearned to go over. You could see it honestly reflected in his eyes.

To know that there is such an organization in Texas that helps our youth is something I am proud of. To know that honor and integrity is instilled in these wonderful young people who deserve a second chance as much if not more than people twice their age or higher class statuses makes me both humble and proud that our nation has a youth that can win a war against the enemy, whether it be drug addiction, standing up and going to combat or feeling the pain of another country. I was honored to meet two such young people two days ago.

Thank you, Teen Challenge of Texas (http://www.texasteenchallenge.org/) for being there for our youth and for allowing me to come in contact with two of your success stories.
