Texas has a long history of perseverance, leadership and pride, dating back even before the fight at the Alamo. One thing it did not wish to have a lead in was the problem of prescription drug addiction. Still, as easy as it is to get prescription drugs in a variety of ways, it is no wonder that this has become a problem not only in Texas but just about everywhere.
There are people who truly suffer from chronic illnesses and physical pain who do require prescription medications. However, even they can find themselves becoming addicted to their prescription and taking higher dosages closer together so that they are going back for refills much quicker than medically warranted.
Doctors and pharmacies try to keep track of such indications of addiction but sometimes a patient can switch out physicians and drugstores and the information is not alwa
ys readily available to raise a red flag. Not only that, but with the internet now giving access to many cyber-pharmacies, there are more and more problems arising with drug addiction.
What happens when you find yourself in the position of being addicted to or knowing someone who is addicted to prescription drugs? In the state of Texas, we have a high prescription abuse problem as detailed in this article by Texan and former anchorman Dan Rather:
Knowing there is a problem is the first step and there are wonderful programs in Texas to help a person to take the added steps to a successful recovery from just such an addiction. Yet how do you know that you or someone you love is becoming addicted to the prescription? The refills are required at a quicker rate as the person is taking higher dosages closer together.
Why? Because the brain is sending mixed signals telling the body it needs the prescription. Yes, that which dictates our thought processes and common sense can become quickly addicted to the medication and tells the body it needs the meds even when the body does not.
This blog has covered alcohol addiction symptoms and prescription medication in two small articles but that is only the beginning of what this place is for. Substance abuse and drug addiction can control people of any age, race, monetary class and gender. Every state and country is affected. There will be informative articles and there will be stories from those who have battled that addiction.
Realizing you are not alone, that others have and are going through addictions every day, can help you to deal with the fact that you or someone you love has a problem and you can take the steps to overcoming that problem today.
