Don’t Mess with Marijuana in Texas

guy marijuana 300x200 Dont Mess with Marijuana in TexasThe fight to legalize marijuana has gone on for years. Some believe it is no more harmful than cigarettes and that in reality, if cigarettes do hurt you and are legal, why not legalize marijuana? In the state of Texas, marijuana is treated as any other illicit drug in that there are penalties and there are consequences.

Depending on the amount, depending on whether a minor is involved or a transaction is being made within a certain area where children gather, such as a school, youth center, public pool or arcade, the person in possession of marijuana could find himself facing probation, county jail time, state jail time, even prison. Fines can range from being waived or be imposed up to $10,000.

Marijuana is illegal in the state of Texas, which has earned the reputation of being hard on crime. To the Texas legal system, drugs are drugs and possession and/or the sale of marijuana will come with heavy fines and jail time when the perpetrator is caught.

The argument to legalize marijuana does not hold water in Texas like it does many other states where it seems to be decriminalized, Just as those driving while intoxicated learn, Texas does not mess around when it comes to drinking and driving, selling or buying for minors and the same holds true for marijuana.

While a first offense may get a person probation and mandatory drug treatment, a repeat offense could go right into felony and have more serious consequences. If a person did not learn his lesson the first time then a harsher punishment may be needed. A third offense? Get ready for some serious jail time then.

Whatever side of the marijuana argument a person is on, the fact is that drug use is taken seriously by the state of Texas. Irresponsibility, illegal use and abuse, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, possession, selling, all of it is punishable and marijuana is no exception.

The bottom line is that marijuana is illegal, it can damage your body and affect your thinking and Texas does not tolerate illegal drug use. The phrase “Don’t Mess with Texas” does not just refer to littering. Get caught with some marijuana a couple of times and you will see: Texas fights a real war on drugs. Just as drugs do not discriminate, Texas doesn’t, either. Drugs are drugs and someone in possession of marijuana will be prosecuted.
